Al-Mazar Al-Shamali (Arabic: المزار الشمالي) is a city located in the Irbid Governorate of north-western Jordan. It's the capital city of Al Mazar al Shamali Department. Located 15 km south-west of Irbid, it has a population of approximately 20,000 people, and the major families (tribes or clans) are Al-Jarrah and Al-Shorman. The region consists of a series of mountain ranges that reach approximately 780 meters above sea level.
The etymology of Al-Mazar Al-Shamali: where Al-Mazar refers to an old pilgrimage site found at the place of Prophet Dawood (Prophet David), and Al-Shamali translates to "the Northern". Thus, Al-Mazar Al-Shamali can be translated into The Northern Shrine.
Vegetation and agriculture
A characteristic of the region is the prevalence of forests in the South of the city, which consist of a variety of trees such as oak, pistacia, and pine.
The region relies on basic crops: wheat, barley, and fruit trees such as peach, apricot, and almond. Olives are one of the most important products in the region, in addition to grapes.

Location, administrative units
Al-Mazar Al-Shamali is in the southern part of Irbid Governorate with its high mountains of astonishing landscape, which are adjacent to the Ajloun Mountains.[1] It consists of the following ten areas or districts: Al-Mazar Al-Shamali, Inbah, Dayr Yusuf, Arhaba, Zoubia, Johfiyeh, Samad, Zaatarah, Habka, and Hofa.
