Aryal (also written as Arjel, Arjyal, and Ariyal) is a Nepalese surname. Aryal belongs to the Atreya gotra, and as such, they are believed to be the descendants of Sage Atreya.[1] In Hinduism, Varaha (Nepali: वराह) is the deity of the Aryal clan.[2] They were the Upadhyayas who worked as astrologers, also known as Jyotishis or Jaisis. The Aryal family is part of the Thar Ghar of the Gorkha Kingdom.
