Benjamin Asare is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Accra Hearts of Oak S.C.[2] and the Ghana national team. In March 2025, national team head coach Otto Addo named him as Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper.[3][4][5]
Club career
Asare joined Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League ahead of the 2023–24 season.[6][7] In the 2024–25 campaign, he kept 12 clean sheets in 18 league matches.[8][9] He was subsequently called up to the Ghana national team.[10] In April 2025, he signed a contract extension with the club until 2027.[11] The following month, he was named Ghana Premier League Goalkeeper of the Month after keeping three clean sheets in five matches.[12][13][14]
In 2025, Benjamin Asare was named Male Home-Based Footballer of the Year at the 50th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards, recognising his standout performances for Accra Hearts of Oak and in the Black Stars setup during the season.[15]
International career
Asare earned his first call-up to the Ghana national football team in March 2025 for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. He made his debut in a 5–0 victory over Chad, keeping a clean sheet, and also kept a clean sheet in Ghana's 3–0 win over Madagascar. [16][17] Later that month, head coach Otto Addo described him as the national team's first-choice goalkeeper.[18] Former Ghana Football Association president Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe also publicly supported his selection.[19][20]
