Brendan Muldowney is an Irish screenwriter and film director, and graduate of the National Film School of Ireland at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

Career

Brendan Muldowney is an award-winning Irish film director and screenwriter known for his bold visual style, emotional intensity, and uncompromising approach to storytelling. A graduate of the National Film School at IADT, Muldowney first gained international attention with a series of acclaimed short films before making his feature debut with Savage(2009), a gritty urban thriller that earned multiple Irish Film & Television Award nominations.

He followed this with Love Eternal (2013), a haunting and poetic drama that premiered at the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival and screened at over 70 festivals worldwide..

His next feature, the medieval epic Pilgrimage (2017), starring Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, and Richard Armitage, premiered at Tribeca and confirmed Muldowney’s reputation for ambitious, visceral filmmaking on the international stage.

In 2022 he released The Cellar, a supernatural horror starring Elisha Cuthbert and Eoin Macken, which screened at SXSW and was acquired by Shudder, reaching global audiences.

Muldowney’s next feature film, One Last Deal, stars Danny Dyer and is scheduled for release on March 13, 2026.

Across his body of work, Muldowney combines genre filmmaking with a deep interest in character psychology, exploring themes of faith, violence, grief, and moral ambiguity. His films are marked by rigorous craft, atmospheric world-building, and a willingness to push formal boundaries.
