Haplodrassus lyratus is a species of spider in the family Gnaphosidae.[1] It is endemic to South Africa.[2]
Distribution
Haplodrassus lyratus is found only in the Western Cape province of South Africa, specifically at the type locality of Matjiesfontein.[2]
Habitat and ecology
The species is a free-living ground dweller that inhabits the Nama Karoo biome at an altitude of 912 m above sea level.[2]
Description
Haplodrassus lyratus is known only from females.[2]
Conservation
Haplodrassus lyratus is listed as Data Deficient due to taxonomic reasons. More sampling is needed to collect male specimens and determine the species' full range.[2]
Taxonomy
The species was originally described by W. F. Purcell in 1907 as Drassodes lyratus. In 2025, Yuri M. Marusik and Charles R. Haddad transferred the species to the genus Haplodrassus.[3]
