Edmond Clint Fernandes is an Indian physician, author, social entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of CHD Group, a non-profit organization based in India that works in the field of global health.[1]
Early life and education
Fernandes was born in Niddodi, Mangalore. He completed his schooling at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Father Muller Medical College,[2] and later completed a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Community Medicine at Yenepoya University.[3][4] During his medical studies, he served as the chief editor of the student magazine Mullerpulse at Father Muller Medical College.[5]
Public health work
Fernandes has participated in disaster relief efforts including Typhoon Haiyan, Cyclone Fani, and the Kerala Floods, providing medical relief.[6][7] He has advocated for a ban on doctor's white coats to prevent hospital acquired infections[8] and to regulate work hours of resident doctors to reduce preventable deaths.[9] In 2017, he spoke at the United Nations Regional Hub in Bangkok on how South–South cooperation at the ASEAN level can create a new world order in strengthening international development.[10]
Fernandes conducted a pilot project to address malnutrition in Yelburga, Karnataka.[11] He co-founded Mission ICU.[12] Fernandes led the implementation of the seat belt policy for road safety in Mangalore in the year 2015.[13]
