The hospital was built in 1896 to a design by Edward William Mountford.[1][2] It was endowed by the local wine merchant Richard Badger, and named by him in memory of his wife.[3][4] The street opposite the hospital's main frontage was named Badgers Crescent.[5] The old hospital was demolished in 2022. It was replaced by an outpatient facility with no beds.[6]
