The college[2] was established in 2000 under the Directorate of Technical Education[3] of the government of Kerala. The college was inspected and approved by AICTE in April 2003.[4] Government Engineering College, Idukki, was founded to provide technical education to students in the hilly regions of Kerala. It started operations in 2000 with just two undergraduate programs. Over the years, it has expanded its academic offerings to include more undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines of engineering and technology. The college operates under the administrative control of the Government of Kerala, following the curriculum prescribed by the Kerala Technological University (KTU).
