About

Joseph Greenberg School is a K-8 National Blue Ribbon[2] awarded school in Upper Northeast Philadelphia, PA. The school was first built in 1956 by Joseph J. Greenberg,[3] an architect[4] and member of the Board of Education.

Throughout the School District of Philadelphia, PBIS is used to engage and motivate students to do better.

Positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) is a set of ideas and tools used in schools to improve students' behavior. PBIS uses evidence and data-based programs, practices, and strategies to frame behavioral improvement relating to student growth in academic performance, safety, behavior, and establishing and maintaining positive school culture. PBIS tries to address the behavioral needs of at-risk students and the multi-leveled needs of all students, in an effort to create an environment that promotes effective teaching and learning in schools. Educational researchers such as Robert H. Horner believe that PBIS enhances the school staff's time for delivering effective instructions and lessons to all students.[6]

K-5th grade teachers and specialists give out points[7] for students answering questions and following the school's behavioral norms.
