Laura Magee is a Canadian physician who is professor of Women's Health at King's College London. Her research focuses on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and the developmentof antihypertensive therapies. She received the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy Chesley Award in 2014.

Early life and education

Magee was a medical student at the University of Toronto. She completed her clinical training at the Toronto Western Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital.[1] She was supported by the Royal College of Physicians to undergo obstetric training with Christopher Redman at the University of Oxford. She completed a doctorate researching the factors that influence alcohol-related attitudes and behaviours of university students, and found that social influences and psychological factors played a bigger role than sociodemographic variables.[2]

Research and career

In 1996, Magee joined the University of Toronto as an assistant professor, where she developed research activity on obstetric epidemiology. In Toronto, Magee founded the Obstetric Medicine Training Program. she was made clinical assistant professor at the University of British Columbia, and was promoted to clinical professor in 2011.[3] She chaired two committees on national guidelines, focussed on pregnancy hypertension and fetal neuroprotection.[4]

In 2015, Magee joined St George's, University of London, moving to King's College London as professor of Women's Health in 2017. She is a member of the King's Global Health Institute.[5]
