LimeChain is a Bulgarian blockchain development and Web3 infrastructure company founded in 2017 and headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria.[1] The company focuses on protocol engineering, decentralized application (dApp) development, and developer tooling.[2] The company was profiled in Forbes and in 2024 was ranked in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA for revenue growth.[3][4]

History

LimeChain was founded in 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria.[1][3] The company initially focused on protocol-level engineering, SDKs, and blockchain infrastructure.[5][6]

Early clients included Procter & Gamble, Raiffeisen Bank, and Propy.[7][8] By 2022, the team had grown by 50% year over year to more than 100 employees.[9] The company subsequently expanded to over 150 team members and established a presence in the United Kingdom.[10][11][12][13]

In late 2019, LimeChain joined the Hyperledger project and the Linux Foundation. In January 2020, the company was admitted as one of eight Hyperledger Fabric Certified Service Providers worldwide.[8] That year, LimeChain also launched LimeLegal, a joint venture with Progressive Lawyers focused on blockchain legal advisory services.[9][14]

In 2024, LimeChain was ranked 327th in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA.[4][15][16] One of the company's co-founders was accepted into the Endeavor Network, a global community supporting high-impact entrepreneurs.[17] The company was profiled in Forbes in December 2024, in an article on the convergence of AI and blockchain,[2] and again in December 2025, in an article on enterprise blockchain adoption.[3]

Notable clients and projects

LimeChain's clients have included Procter & Gamble, which used the company to implement smart contracts for its claims management system,[18] and IMVU, whose in-game token developed by LimeChain received a no-action letter from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 2020.[19][20] The company also built Project Diamond, an institutional digital asset platform for Coinbase Asset Management, deployed within the Abu Dhabi Global Market regulatory sandbox.[3]

Services and Technology

LimeChain's work covers both public blockchain networks and enterprise environments.[21] Technical contributions have included smart contract systems, cross-chain bridges, and zero-knowledge proof research.[2][22] According to Forbes, the company's enterprise approach emphasizes audit, compliance, and integration as part of blockchain deployments for institutional clients.[3]

LimeAcademy

LimeAcademy originated in 2018 as a blockchain developer training initiative created by LimeChain in partnership with Telerik Academy.[33][34] In 2021, LimeChain relaunched LimeAcademy as a standalone program for training experienced software developers in blockchain development.[5]

Industry Affiliations and Recognition

LimeChain is a member of the Linux Foundation and a Hyperledger Fabric Certified Service Provider.[8] A LimeChain co-founder served as a maintainer of the Baseline Protocol, an open-source enterprise synchronization initiative under the Ethereum OASIS Open Project, and the company developed a proof-of-concept integrating Google Sheets with Microsoft Dynamics 365 using the protocol.[35] The company has received grants from the Web3 Foundation,[26] the Arbitrum Foundation,[36] and StarkWare, which named LimeChain the first recipient of its $1 million OP_CAT Research Fund in 2024.[37] LimeChain co-founded BuildRooms, a Web3 hub in Bulgaria.[38]

A co-founder is a member of the Endeavor global entrepreneur network.[17] In 2021, LimeChain team member Zhivko Todorov was named to the Forbes Bulgaria 30 Under 30 list in the Business category.[39]
