Founding

PowerToFly was founded by Milena Berry, former CTO of Avaaz.org and Katharine Zaleski, former Senior News Editor of the Huffington Post, in August 2014 after the birth of Zaleski’s daughter. Originally focused on connecting women, non-binary and gender nonconforming people with companies that care about diversity and inclusion, the company has since expanded its mission to support all underrepresented talent. Additionally, the company initially focused on connecting employers with candidates for remote and flexible roles but later expanded to offer broader recruitment services and professional development programming.

In September 2022, PowerToFly secured over $30 million in funding in a round led by investment funds managed by Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital, with participation from the Morgan Stanley Next Level Fund, Chartline Ventures, and Grasshopper Bank. The funding was intended to support the expansion of the company’s products and services, including professional development resources and membership offerings for employers.

Since its founding, PowerToFly has partnered with startups and large enterprises including Google, Amazon, American Express, Deloitte, Citi and many others to support hiring and talent engagement efforts.

Founded in June 2019 as a one-off event, it has since become an ongoing series with approximately one event per month. Since its launch, the events have seen over 100,000 registrants annually. Past summit speakers have included Valerie Jarret, Alan Cumming, Angelica Ross, Ai-jen Poo, Arianna Huffington, Jonah Peretti, and hundreds more.
