Saquib Rahman is a Bangladeshi activist, academic lawyer and former politician. He gained public attention for advocating for justice for the victims of the Pilkhana Massacre, particularly his father, Col. Quadrat Elahi.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Rahman was born to Bangladeshi Army Colonel Quadrat Elahi, and celebrity chef, Lobbi Rahman.[4] He is a grand-nephew of former Bangladeshi military dictator H M Ershad.[5] When he was 18 years old, he lost his father during the Bangladesh Rifles revolt.[4]

Rahman would later go on to pursue a career in Law. He completed his LLB from Brac University, an MSS in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Dhaka University and an LLM from the University of Warwick.[3]

BDR massacre advocacy

Rahman has publicly demanded a re-investigation of the events of the BDR mutiny. He has criticised the initial probe and has accused Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League government of being behind the massacre. He has headed multiple press conferences and published multiple articles on behalf of the Shaheed families.[4][6][7]

Career

Currently, Rahman is serving as a senior lecturer at the Department of Law at North South University.[3]

Jatiya Party

Rahman briefly served as international affairs secretary in Jatiya Party under G M Quader, his grand-uncle, before announcing that he was disassociating from the party in 2023.[5]

In an Op-Ed article released in 2025, he revealed that he was removed due to a complaint issued by the political secretary of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. Rahman stated that he had been photgraphed at a social event at the Pakistani High Commissioner's residence, which enraged the Indian diplomats stationed in Dhaka. As a result, they forced Quader to remove Rahman from the party completely.[8]
