Sheikh Rabiul Alam is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a Jatiya Sangsad member-elect representing the Dhaka-10 constituency.[1]

Background

Sheikh Rabiul Alam was born to Sheikh Lokman Hakim and Asia Begum.[2]

Career

Alam is the managing director of Pleasant Properties Limited, a real estate company.[3]

Alam was the BNP candidate for the Dhaka-10 constituency in the 2018 Bangladeshi general election but lost to the Awami League candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.[4]

Alam became an executive committee member member of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).[5]

On 15 October 2024, BNP suspended Alam following his alleged involvement in a murder case..[5][6] Earlier, in the primary probe, the police found the involvement of Alam in murdering Tanjeel Jahan Islam Tamim, a broadcast engineer at Deepto TV, in the Rampura Mahanagar Project area in Dhaka.[7][8] A raid was then launched to arrest him, but Alam went into hiding.[9] After being fugitive for a year, Alam was seen on multiple television talk shows on Somoy TV, RTV, and Ekattor TV.[9]

On 4 December 2025, BNP nominated Alam as its candidate for the Dhaka-10 constituency for the 2026 Bangladeshi general election held on 12 February 2026.[4] He won the election securing 80,436 votes while his nearest opponent Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md. Jashim Uddin got 77,136 votes.[10]
