Tanvi Shah is an Indian playback singer and songwriter.[1] She performs in languages including Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.[2] Her professional debut was "Yakkai Thiri" for the film Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004).[2]
Career
Shah has collaborated frequently with composer A. R. Rahman, contributing vocals to films such as Sillunu Oru Kadhal, Slumdog Millionaire, and Delhi-6. She provided the Spanish lyrics for the song "Jai Ho".[3] Following the international success of "Jai Ho", she collaborated with international artists including Snoop Dogg on "Snoop Dogg Millionaire" and music producer Chase & Status.[1]
In 2010, she shared the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media with Rahman and Gulzar at the 52nd Grammy Awards for her work on "Jai Ho".[4]
Shah's live performances include the Yuvan - Live in Concert in Chennai (2011) and Malaysia (2012). In 2013, she performed at the Coke Studio concert at IIM Bangalore with Amit Trivedi.[5] In November 2012, she was a speaker at the TEDxSF conference on Global Health.[6]
Philanthropy
Shah is a participant in the Rotary International "End Polio" campaign alongside figures such as Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. She contributed the song "Zindagi" to the End Polio campaign album, which featured international artists including Itzhak Perlman and Ziggy Marley. She also supports the Cancer Institute in Chennai.[7]
