Thimphu Football Club is a Bhutanese football club based in Thimphu.
History
The club finished in a qualifying position during the 2001 season and was drawn into Group A along with Paro and Drukpol.[3] They managed to defeat Paro and drew against Drukpol, thus topping the group and advancing to the semi-finals.[3] Although they lost to Samtse in the semifinals, they beat Drukpol in the third-place match to finish third overall.[3]
Thimpu also participated in 2002, although their final position is not known.[4] The only known result involving Thimpu is a 5–1 victory over Drukpol.[4] In 2015, Thimphu became the first Bhutanese club to hire a foreign coach, Fabio Lopez. However, the Italian coach resigned from the club without coaching a single match, due to difficulties adapting to the lifestyle changes from his native country. The two foreign players signed under coach Lopez remained in the squad for the 2015 season.[5]
