Synonyms

Homonym: Craspedodiscus oblongus (Greville, 1866) Hanna, 1931 - invalid (no basionym)
Note:: In Schmidt (1881, pl.66, figs 10-11), two specimens of Coscinodiscus oblongus are shown that are strongly suggested to belong to Craspedodiscus. However, in the same plate caption, Grunow transferred Porodiscus oblongus to Craspedodiscus (Schmidt, 1881, pl.66, figs 7-9). Thus, formally transferring Coscinodiscus oblongus to Craspedodiscus would have created a homonym (as Hanna did in 1931).
Note: Because Craspedodiscus oblongus (Greville, 1863) Grunow in Schmidt, 1881 (based on Porodiscus oblongus Greville) has priority, a replacement name was needed for Coscinodiscus oblongus when it was validly transferred to Craspedodiscus. Hence, Gombos name it Craspedodiscus ellipticus.
