Type species: Kryptoglanis shajii Vincent & Thomas, 2011. Type by original designation (also monotypic).
Etymology: The generic name Kryptoglanis is a reference to the cryptic habitat of this catfish species (Latin crypta a vault or tunnel, glanis a catfish).
