Name
Pigea Ging., Mém. Soc. Phys. Genève 2(1): 28, t. 2, fig. 4. (1823) emend. Forster (2021)
- Type species: Pigea filiformis DC. ex Ging., Mém. Soc. Phys. Genève 2(1): 27, t. 2, fig. 4. (1823) vide Pigea monopetala (Schult.) Ging., Prodr. [A. P. de Candolle] 1: 307. (1824)
Synonyms
- Heterotypic
- Afrohybanthus Flicker, Phytotaxa 230: 43 (2015)
- Vlamingia de Vriese in J.G.C.Lehmann, Pl. Preiss. 1: 398 (1845)
Note: Some authorities recommended that Afrohybanthus and Pigea be recombined with the later becoming the legitimate name due to precedent (Forester, 2021). However, this is rejected by POWO (2025) who restrict this genus to Australia and APC (2025) who do not recognise the genus in Australia. Hassler (2025) does recognise Pigea s.l. in line with Forster (2021).
