Name
Triceratiaceae (Schütt, 1896) Lemmermann, 1899
Type-genus: Triceratium Ehrenberg, 1839
Notes:
- Schütt (1896) used the taxon, Triceratiinae, as a subtribe/subfamily, which Lemmermann (1899) raised to the family level.
- Initially, Eupodiscaceae Kützing (1849) was used when Eupodiscus and Triceratium were in the same family, but was later replaced by Triceratiaceae because the former family is based on Eupodiscus Ehrenberg nom. rej. The currently accepted Eupodiscaceae is based on Eupodiscus J.W.Bailey nom. cons.
- Sims et al. (2018) suggested that Zygoceros may need to be assigned to a separate family (as yet not formally described).
