• "The genus name is formed from the word in the language of the Colville Indian tribe x̌ʷətx̌ʷətaqs, meaning odonate, pronounced "whetwhetaks". The Republic site where the only known fossils of this family have been found is on the traditional land of the Colville Indian Tribe, immediately north of the current Colville Reserve.
