Mehsi is a town and municipality in the East Champaran District in the Indian state of Bihar, situated at the border of Sheohar district, Muzaffarpur district.[3]
The town is the entry point of the East Champaran district. There are many smaller factories manufacturing buttons for the clothing Industry, although most of the population depends upon commercial business and agriculture.[4]
Demographics
The Mehsi city is divided into 15 wards for which elections are held every 5 years. The Mehsi Nagar Panchayat has population of 25,995 of which 13,573 are males while 12,422 are females as per report released by Census India 2011. Population of Children with age of 0-6 is 4879 which is 18.77 % of total population of Mehsi (NP). In Mehsi Nagar Panchayat, Female Sex Ratio is of 915 against state average of 918. Moreover Child Sex Ratio in Mehsi is around 1004 compared to Bihar state average of 935. Literacy rate of Mehsi city is 64.11 % higher than state average of 61.80 %. In Mehsi, Male literacy is around 71.26 % while female literacy rate is 56.13 %.

River
The perennial Budhi Gandak river flows near the town of Mehsi which is a tributary of the Ganga river.[5]

Railways
Mehsi town, through railway, is directly connected to the major Indian cities like – Patna, Varanasi, Haridwar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Allahabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Amritsar, Guwahati, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Ranchi, Raipur, Nagpur, Hyderabad etc. Mehsi railway station is situated on Muzaffarpur–Gorakhpur main line under the Samastipur railway division of East Central Railway zone.[6] It is also the closest railway station to Kesaria Stupa, a Buddhist pilgrimage site, and is on Muzaffarpur–Gorakhpur main line under the Samastipur railway division.[7][8]

Road
India's 2nd Longest National Highway, NH -27, passes through Mehsi.
- Buses have been introduced by the BSTDC between Patna and Motihari, Bettiah, Raxaul, Bairgania, Sheohar via Mehsi.[9]
- A special caravan service called Wonder on Wheel, between Patna and Kesariya, Mehsi, has been introduced by the Bihar Tourism Department.[10]
- Mehsi has restricted the use of auto rickshaws, cars, and buses to make the site more peaceful. A permit is required to use cars or buses, and the only taxi available is an electric rickshaw that is mostly noiseless.
