It is a subtropical plant. It grows in mixed forests and shady limestone ravines and along streams between 800-2,200 m above sea level. In Sichuan and Yunnan.

How to Identify

A creeper. It grows 6 m tall. The leaves are opposite and oval and 4-15 cm long by 2-7 cm wide. The flowering shoots are at the end of branches of in the axils of leaves. They have a scent. The petals are pale yellow to green. The fruit are shiny and purple to red. They are round but with 4 wings. They are 2-3 cm long by 2-3 cm wide.

Production

In China plants flower in March to August and fruit July to November.

Notes

There are about 255 Combretum species. Combretum wallichii DC. is an accepted name. Combretum wallichii Kurz is a synonym.
