Where to Find It
It is a subtropical plant. In the Himalayas it grows between 1,000-1600 m altitude. It suits hardiness zones 9b-12. In Cairns Botanical Gardens.

How to Identify
A ginger family herb. It grows 1-1.6 m high. The leaves are dark green above and dull red underneath. The blades are sword shaped and 20-30 cm long by 8-10 cm wide. They taper to the tip. The flowers are bright red.
How to Grow
Plants are grown by division of the clump. Small plants can also grown on the flwoering head and be used for planting.
