How to Identify
A grass. It is usually in dense tufts The stems are 8-30 cm tall. The leaves are 2-10 cm long by 5-8 mm wide. They are folded along their length. The flower panicle is contracted and 2-4 cm long.

The grass is used for erosion control and revegetation. The specific epithet brachyphylla means "short-leaved". The grass has a diploid number of 28, 42, or 44. This species was first described in 1827.
