It is a tropical plant. It grows from sea level to 400 m above sea level. It can be up to 1,400 m above sea level. It often grows in swamp forest.

How to Identify
A large tree. It grows 55 m tall. The trunk can be 75 cm across. The bark is grey. The leaves are 5-11 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. The young shoots and buds at the ends are covered with rusty brown hairs. The flowering shoots are longer than the leaves. The fruit are narrowly oval and flattened. They are 17-22 mm long by 8-10 mm wide. The fruit are red. The seed is 8-12 mm long by 2-3 mm wide.
How to Grow
Plants can be grown from seeds. Seeds can take 99-231 days to geminate.
Other Uses
A yellow dye is obtained from the wood. The wood is yellow. It is tough and fibrous. A major timber species in New Guinea, it is used for flooring, light construction, interior finishing, mouldings, veneeretc.
