How to Identify
Lissanthe sapida is an evergreen Shrub growing to 1 m (3ft 3in) by 2 m (6ft). It is frost tender. It is in leaf all year. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.
How to Grow
This species is hardy to about -7°c in Australian gardens, though this cannot be translated to British gardens due to their cooler summers that often fail to fully ripen new wood and also their colder and wetter winters. Plants require cool greenhouse treatment in Britain. 193
