How to Identify
Decemium appendiculatum is a BIENNIAL/PERENNIAL growing to 0.4 m (1ft 4in). It is in flower from June to July. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland). It prefers moist or wet soil.
How to Grow
Requires a damp position. Prefers a little light shade and a sheltered position.
Propagation: Seed - sow April to June in a cold frame. The seed usually germinates in 2 - 4 weeks at 18°c. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the autumn. The seed can also be sown in situ in late spring and thinned to 15cm apart.
