Where to Find It

A tropical plant. In Bolivia they grow to 1,500 m altitude. They grow in areas with 1000-1500 mm of rain per year.

How to Identify

A small tree. It grows 3-4 m high. The trunk is 6-10 cm across. The leaves are opposite. The leaf stalk is 5-8 mm long. The leaves are 4-7 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. They taper to the tip. The fruit is round and 5 mm across. There is one seed.

Notes

There are about 550 Eugenia species. They are mostly in tropical and subtropical South America.
