How to Identify
A tropical tree in the Vochysiaceae family with edible fruit.
Medicinal Uses
The fruits are oily and resolutive. They are used to treat skin infections, dermatoses, fever, malaria.
Other Uses
The seeds are the source of 'Jaboty butter' or 'Jaboty tallow'. This is used for making candles and soap. The seed is collected for industrial use. The fruit, rather suggesting a pipe, is 4 - 6cm long, 2 - 3cm thick, ligneous, glabrous, with one seed 3 - 5 cm. long, 15 - 20mm thick. The soft, coarse, dirty white wood is without value.
