How to Identify
A palm. It forms clumps of 5-30 stems. They grow 3-5 m tall. The stems are 2-5 cm across. They are spiny. The sheath is 40-70 cm long. The leaves are up to 1.8 m long with 25-34 leaflets on each side. These have flattened yellow-brown spines. The flowering shoots are between the leaves and 18-20 cm long. They are spiny. The fruit are 2-3 cm long by 2-3 cm wide.
