Where to Find It

It is a tropical plant.

Humid lowland rainforests, sometimes in drier forests, often on limestone soils; at elevations up to 500 metres. Moist deciduous forest, sometimes on the lower slopes of some limestone hills.

How to Identify

A palm.

How to Grow

Prefers a moist shady position but, once established, can tolerate dry periods.

Other Uses

The leaves are used for thatching. The leaves can be made into umbrellas. The leaves are covered in wood oil from Dipterocarpus spp, and used as torches. The wood is rather soft.

Licuala peltata is a species of palm tree in the family Arecaceae. It is found in South Asia and Southeast Asia. The triangular leaves are not truly peltate, or if so only marginally so.
