Cats are a domesticated species of passive mobs and are usually kept as pets by people. Only the calico breed was shown in Season One, while the original breeds from Minecraft were hidden or removed from the game's files.

Behavior

A tamed cat might spend its time lounging or getting into mischief, depending on its personality. Some cats are content to sleep on a chest or bed, returning to the same spot even after being moved. Others, like Winslow, can be more stubborn and playful, often ignoring their owner's commands. Most, if not all, cats are attracted to fish.

History

In A Portal to Mystery, a calico cat named Winslow appeared as the pet of Cassie Rose. Several other calico cats also appeared in the White Pumpkin's lair, where Jesse had to bait one away to access a chest the cat was lying on.

Trivia

  • The calico cat laying on the chest of paintings uses the models of Winslow.
  • Calico cats did not exist in vanilla Minecraft when Story Mode was released; therefore, the eventual Minecraft calico pattern was different than that of Winslow and the other calico cats.
  • In the files of A Portal to Mystery, a texture of a red tabby can be found.
  • In a pre-release build of both Access Denied and Below the Bedrock, textures for the original breeds of cats were found. These assets were later removed in the final version of the game.
  • In The Order of the Stone, during the introduction of Magnus, there is a realistic painting of a grey tabby cat on the wall of his room.
